You have gathered the courage & capital and just started a small business. Now, what’s the next step? Many small businesses get stuck at just the start or miscalculate their next step, which becomes the cause of their demise in the future. According to a Nerd Wallet, over 200,000 small businesses don’t even survive the first year & have to close up because of the wrong strategies they opted for, during their run. We see new businesses launch every week here in the Black Hills and don’t have a plan for their marketing – what do you do?

Marketing for Businesses

Marketing has been a significant aspect of businesses for a long time. Letting people know about your business and establishing brand identity are the two most basic things marketing offers. It is a strong tool you can use to create a name for your business. Some businesses rely on organic growth without marketing strategies & these are the ones that crumble to failure, in our opinion.

Having confidence in the quality of your product or service your business offers is a good thing, although, without the right marketing strategies and firm marketing plan, your business might fail. In the past, marketing was carried out through mass media or newspapers, billboards or posters, etc. These streams of marketing are still reliable but should you, as a small business owner, look into it? While we believe traditional media does have its place, we believe your dollar can be better spent online.

Marketing & Technology

Fret not; you are living in the era of technology. The best option for small businesses to grow and make a brand identity is through online marketing. In this world of modernism and comfort, people prefer everything to be done at the touch of their fingers. As a small business, you should use it to your advantage and go online to make sure you’re there when someone is looking for you!

How to Create Online Presence of Your Business

Build your Social Media profiles/pages

Well, there are certainly many ways to create a strong presence online but, the first thing to be done here is to build your business pages on social media platforms. Around 78% of the marketers use Facebook & almost 27% of them use Instagram for marketing. We recommend every business have their Google Business Profile, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn pages built out as a minimum.

Design A Website

Having your own website gives you an edge over your competitors – especially if you have a product or service that can be sold online. The website also helps your business appear in searches more frequently as it contains all the relevant information about your business to those in the Black Hills searching for a local business to support versus shopping with big online retailers.

Create A Blog

Yes, Blog posting is still relevant and worth it! Blog posts with good SEO strategy behind it work like a charm for small businesses. Posting the content related to your business, on other websites or just simply posting it on your own website will make your business rank higher and faster to a potential customer searching for your industry or business online.

Other Streams

Some other streams to create a strong online presence of your brand are YouTube, Twitter, TikTok, Twitch, etc. with more being built every week.

In the 21st century, your business must have an online marketing strategy, as the 2020 pandemic has shown us that life can take a turn at any time. We hope that something like that never happens again but, it’s better to be prepared for every hurdle that comes your way & as the owner of a small business the first hurdle is to create a strong brand identity and market for your business. We wish you the best of luck in your ventures and we’re here if you need us.
